Buffalo Rib Knife
The 1868 Treaty of Fort
Laramie called for all Souix and Cheyenne to leave their land and come in to the reservation so they could become good Christian farmers,so the government could steel the rest of their land, and the gold that was on it. This mandate gave the army authority to bring in all Indian people, by what ever means necessary, Elders, women, and children had no choice, but most of the braves intended to live as free people, on their own land, as their forefathers had done, since the beginning of time.
At this point, they became"hostile renegades" with a price on their head. They had to live on the run without any aspect of village life. Now, the oppertunity to make "points", from flint, for spears and arrows wasn't there, and with each battle their munitions were depleated, but not replaced, and survival depended upon weapons.
White buffalo hunters had recently slaughtered thousands of buffalo, for their hide and tougue, leaving rotting carcass on the palins. Each carcass could provide bone material that could quickly be turned into "points" for their weapons.
Every bone was saturated with infectious bacteria, that would cause most any wound to become "gangernous" , leading to a horrible, painful death. The only treatment for this "gangernous" wound was sulfer drug, cauterize, or amputation, all of which were highly unsucessful.
Due to the slaughter at "Wounded Knee", in 1890, which destroyed the hearts , spirits, and any hope for future freedom for the people, the "bone knife" was short-lived , and hardly recorded in historical documents. It was a highly feared, extreamly deadly weapon of the plains.

Metals used
for my knives
Most of the knives I make fall into three catagories of metal.
SST , stainless steel
I make a very traditional hunting knife, 440c , clip-point blade, hollow-ground, with mule deer handle.
Also, a rather unique, drop-point sninner, A6 sst, hollow-ground, jeweled sides, with file work for the full length of the back of the blade, and moose antler handle.
And heavy-duty, thick blade, Alaskan skinner. This is also A6 sst, deep- bellied, hollow-ground, drop-point blade, with a bone saw cut into the back of the blade. Both sides are jeweled, and the handle is moose antler.
I also make a very unique folding, pocket or belt knife. It's medium in size, 440C sst blade, liner-lock, with blade conceled a piece of axis deer antler
Carbon Spring-Steel
I make hunters, skinners, utility style, bowies, survival type, and cuttelry sets, out of leaf springs, plow points, cross-cut, and circle saw blades.
DAMASCUS THE ULTIMATE
I favor using five layers of metal, a select combination of carbons and exotic steels, folded back into it's self...eight times. This provides a VERY dependable blade.
My knives are numbered, signed, and dated....and come with a shieth.

Damascus...The Ultimate
Damascus steel was created during the time when the quality and durability of a knight's sword determined his success in battle. A Damascus sword was the ultimate. Legend says that if a man had the strength, he could bend a 48" sword, tip to handle, and it would not break. Damascus is thought to have more tensil strength than any other metal in the world.
An ancient process of hammer-forging, Damascus calls for selecting five different types of thin metal strips, stacked with flux between them and then heating them on a forge until the metals begin to flow. At that point, the knifemaker must yield as many hammer blows with a four-pound sledgehammer as possible within a two minute window - the small window before the metals cool.
As the metals are compressed it grows in length. After cooled, it is cut in half, restacked and the process is repeated. Repeating this process five times yields a 375 hammer-fold blade. Eight times yields a 512 hammer-fold blade.
